____________________________

Since 1881 St. John's Church has been actively praying, worshiping, and celebrating life with the mission of God's work of calling, forming, sending, and supporting Christians as agents of love, justice, and peace as shown through the life of Jesus Christ. We seek to live this way in every part of daily life: home, work, local community, wider world, leisure, and church. We'd love to have you with us.

Read about us on this site, call us at 963-7775, or just drop in for a Sunday service. You are always welcome.

About St. John's Church

The mission of St. John's Church is to be a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany with all of us sharing in God's work of calling, forming, sending, and supporting Christians as agents of love, justice, and peace as shown through the life of Jesus Christ. We seek to live this way in every part of daily life: home, work, local community, wider world, leisure, and church.

Columbarium and Gardens overlooking Persell
Hall and Rectory

This beautiful carved eagle
lecturn was a gift to St John's
by the Noble family in memory
of William Belden Noble of
Essex, NY (Oct. 13, 1860 to
July 27, 1896).

Many old European churches have
votive ship models hanging from their
ceilings as offerings for safe passage
of their parishioners. Bill Kissam, of
Westport, built this votive ship model
for St. John's in 2002. It is based on
a typical Lake Champlain sloop circa
1800 (built in Essex before the canal
opened) to carry goods up and down
the lake."

glass windows in the sanctuary.

A selection of 4 of the ~80 needlepoint
kneelers handcrafted by St. John’s
parishioners in 1982. These are hung
on the pews in the church for use during
prayer. A beautiful book of photos of all
the kneelers was privately published in
2005 and is available for sale through
the church office.
